Chromium

Chromium, designated by the chemical symbol Cr and atomic number 24, is a steely-gray, lustrous, hard metal that takes a high polish. In nature, Chromium is found mainly in the mineral chromite.

Chromium boasts a high melting point, excellent hardness, and the unique ability to resist tarnish. It’s these properties that make Chromium a vital element in metallurgy. Chromium also exhibits diverse states of oxidation, but the most stable is the trivalent form, which is a critical nutrient for the human body.

At TXRocks, we supply a wide variety of critical minerals that propel industries forward. Among our offering, Chromium stands out – a versatile metal known for its robustness and brilliant shine, making it a vital ingredient in a myriad of applications from stainless steel production to the aerospace industry.

Critical Usecases

Stainless Steel Production

Chromium’s primary use is in the production of stainless steel. Its addition improves hardness, strength, and corrosion resistance, making the steel “stainless”.

Metal Finishing

Chromium metal is used in metallurgical processes such as chrome plating to produce a hard, beautiful surface and to prevent corrosion.

Pigments and Dyes

Chromium salts are used to create a variety of vivid pigments in dyes, paints, inks, and plastics due to their color-fastness.

Aerospace Industry

Due to its high melting point and resistance to corrosion, Chromium is also used in jet engines and gas turbines.

Catalysts

Certain Chromium compounds act as catalysts in processing hydrocarbons and synthesizing various organic chemicals.
